How to Buy a Bra Online Without Trying It On
Buying a bra without a fitting room is a measurement problem, not a brand problem. The listing will not tell you if the gore sits. The model will not tell you if the band rides. You need a tape, a honest review, and a return window you actually use.
Start with the Size Guide. Band first, then cup. If you only remember one number, remember the band. A 36C that feels loose is often a 34D waiting to happen. Sister sizes keep the cup volume and change the band: 34D, 36C, 32DD are the same cup volume on a different ribcage. Amazon listings that only offer S–XL are guessing. Prefer a brand that prints 34C on the tag.
What to read in the reviews
Ignore “gift for wife” and “pretty color.” Hunt for gore, strap, and band sentences. “Rides up in the back” is a band that is too big. “Spillage” is a cup that is too small. “Empty at the top” is a cup that is too big or a shape mismatch. “Itches after an hour” is a fabric complaint you cannot sister-size away.
Star averages lie. A 4.5 with 20,000 reviews still contains every size in the chart. Read the 3-star reviews first — they are where fit lives. Our Bra Reviews exist because we would rather name the job than recycle the listing.
The band does the work. If it rides, sister-size down before you blame the cups.
When to order two sizes
Order two when the brand is new to you and the return is free. Keep the one where the band is snug on the loosest hook — you will need the tighter hooks later. Return the other the same week. A bra that sits in the box is not a second chance; it is a drawer museum.
Wireless and T-shirt bras hide a bad cup longer. Minimizers and unlined underwire tell you immediately. If you work in blouses, start with a minimizer you can name — Bali Passion for Comfort is the department-store version we actually reviewed. If you live in tees, a molded T-shirt bra is the quieter tool.
Skip these while you learn
Skip adhesive cups as everyday. Skip one-size “fits 32A–38D.” Skip a plunge as your only bra. Skip any listing whose size chart is a screenshot of someone else’s chart. When the first two bras in the drawer fit, then add a sports bra or a pretty set. Not before.
