Smart & Sexy Unlined Underwire Review: A Real Wire for Thirteen Dollars

Smart & Sexy Unlined Underwire Review: A Real Wire for Thirteen Dollars

Most Amazon bras at this price are wireless because a wire is a warranty claim. Smart & Sexy still ships an unlined underwire: black floral lace, scalloped neckline, a small bow and charm at the gore, straps with lace on them, a hook back. Thirteen dollars. Thirteen thousand reviews. A 4.1, which is the sound of a wire that sometimes pokes and a cup that sometimes does not match the letter on the tag.

We just reviewed the OEAK Deep V bralette — plunge, no wire, no miracle. This is the other $13 argument: there is a wire. There is almost no foam. You will see the lace, and you may see you, under a white shirt.

Unlined means what it says

The cups are lace over a light lining, not a molded T-shirt shell. That is the point and the problem. Shape comes from the wire and from you. Small-to-average busts get a pretty outline. Fuller busts get a pretty outline that needs the band to be honest. There is no foam to fake a slope. If you wanted a seamless T-shirt bra, this listing is a trap. If you wanted lace that is actually a bra, not a bralette with opinions, the wire is why you are here.

The scallop will show under a thin knit. The straps are lace-covered and adjustable; they look finished in the photo and they twist in a gym bag. The gore sits on the sternum if the cup is the right volume. If it floats, the cup is small, not the universe. Smart & Sexy is a mass brand (the Maidenform neighborhood). QC is better than a no-name jelly bra and worse than a $50 underwire you can return at a counter.

The wire is real. The 4.1 is also real.

Fit, poke, the white shirt

Band first, cups second — same as every underwire, ignored by every Amazon cart. If you are between, size the band and use the hook. Cheap wires poke when the cup is too small and the wire sits on breast tissue. They also poke when the channel is poorly sewn; that pair is the return, not a “break-in.” A 4.1 at this volume means both happen often enough to write down.

Black is the color that looks like the photo. Nude lace is a different listing and a different opacity. Wash in a bag, hang, never heat. An unlined lace cup that has been tumble-dried is a doily. Check the Size Guide before you argue with the gore.

Who it's for

Someone who wanted a wire and a lace neckline without a department-store tax, and who does not commute in a white T-shirt. Not a sports bra, not a minimizer, not a molded everyday. Thirteen dollars is the correct amount to find out whether unlined is a feeling you like.

Pros

  • An actual underwire at a bralette price
  • Floral lace and a scallop that look finished, not printed
  • Unlined — shape is yours, not foam
  • Adjustable straps, a gore, a hook back: bra architecture
  • Better QC neighborhood than a no-name wireless

Cons

  • Lace and nipples under a white shirt — unlined means it
  • 4.1: some wires poke, some cups miss the letter
  • Not a T-shirt bra; the scallop prints
  • Straps twist; treat them like lace, not gym kit
  • Fuller busts will want more cup than the photo suggests
★★★★★★★★★★
3.8 / 5

A $13 unlined underwire that is a bra, not a bralette. Size the band, hang the lace, and do not wear it under a white tee unless that was the plan.
