Most chemises force you to choose: either it's soft and shapeless enough to sleep in, or it's pretty and uncomfortable enough to wear for ten minutes before you want it off. The Ababoon modal chemise is one of the few I've tried that manages to be both, and that's not a small feat. Modal is the fabric that makes it work — it's that soft, drapey rayon blend that feels like a worn-in t-shirt but looks like something you bought on purpose.
The cut is a V-neck with a lace trim along the bust and a loose, knee-length body that skims rather than clings. There's an adjustable strap situation that lets you control the neckline a bit, and a subtle slit up the side that keeps it from feeling frumpy. It's modest enough to answer the door in, which is a genuinely useful quality in a nightgown.
For sleeping, it's lovely. The modal breathes, it doesn't ride up, and there are no itchy seams to wake you up at 3 a.m. For wearing around the house on a slow Sunday, it's even better — it looks intentional without feeling like you dressed up. That's a harder line to hit than it sounds.
